A complete methodology and disclosure pack for reporting the sustainability effects of retiring IT hardware, built for the reporting teams who have to defend the numbers rather than the marketing teams who have to publish them.
Most ITAD sustainability reporting fails on three points, and this pack is built around fixing all three.
The first is the Scope 3 category. Retired laptops from your own estate belong in category 5, waste generated in operations. Category 12 applies to manufacturers and resellers who placed the hardware on the market. A great deal of published ITAD content cites the wrong one, and a carefully calculated figure sitting in the wrong category is a misstatement, not a presentational issue.
The second is avoided emissions. Returning a device to service genuinely avoids the manufacture of a new one. That benefit sits outside your greenhouse gas inventory and cannot be deducted from Scope 3, counted toward a reduction target, or used to support a net zero claim. This pack shows you the compliant way to present it, with model wording, the three WBCSD eligibility gates, and a register of ten claims that will not survive an assurance review.
The third is weight-based reporting. Tonnes diverted is a waste metric, not a climate metric. The pack pushes you toward average service life at retirement, which is the one circularity figure that cannot be improved by retiring newer equipment or quietly redefining diversion.
